Multimedia Art of Museum, Moscow

April 2018
MAMM is the first museum of photography that appeared in 1996 through the initiative of Olga Sviblova, a notable person in the circles of the cultural elite.
Today MAMM is a 7-storey modern space in a white cube style; it hosts such festivals as "Photobiennale", "Fashion and Style in Photography" and other remarkable events. When well-known photographers exhibit in Russia, they mostly do it here.

In the middle of April, we came to see the new exhibitions of the museum, including conceptual art "Ludwig Museum Collection", which consists of works by Picasso, Warhol, Basquiat, Lichtenstein and many other artists.

As part of the Photobiennale 2018 and the Year of Japan in Russia, MAMM presented the exhibition "Memory and Light. Japanese Photography, 1950-2000" from the collection of the European House of Photography, Paris. We were shown a part of this collection, featuring works by post-war Japanese classics and such iconic photographers as Nobuyoshi Araki, Masahisa Fukase, Seiichi Furuya, Masao Yamamoto, and others.

In 1992, the Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. decided to introduce the French public to contemporary Japanese photography and presented to the Maison Européenne de la photographie (MEP) a vast collection of works by outstanding Japanese photographers of the 1950s-1990s. The MEP collection is annually enriched by the best works of Japanese photographers and today consists of about 540 images. It is the largest collection of Japanese photography in Europe, clearly demonstrating the important role of Japanese art in the history of world photography.

The Star of the exhibition was of course the exhibition of the Pirelli 2018 calendar, which was created by the famous British photographer Tim Walker. This is the first exhibition of the famous artist in Russia. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's book "Alice in Wonderland" and the illustrations for the first edition of 1865, Tim Walker offered a new reading of one of the most famous stories in the history of world literature.
Unique costumes and decorations were created for the shooting of the calendar, and the roles in his tale were performed only by Afroamerican models, including Naomi Campbell, Whoopi Goldberg, rapper P.Diddy and other celebrities.
The collections of such a variety of genres and epochs are harmoniously presented in a mutual space in the Museum.
Here you will discover new names in photography and get a portion of inspiration. Everyone who is interested in photography and art of the 20-21st century will see here a great number of creative art works.
MAMM often hosts the lectures of famous photographers and art critics. At the vernissages, the Museum organizes a fourchette while the authors of the exhibits interact with the public.

We do highly recommend visiting such events, where you will be able to meet the Masters of photography, find people who also interested in arts and introduce your photo projects to the curators of the Museum.
